Patent Docket Associate

 

We are expanding our patent docketing practice and seek to add an experienced IP professional to the team. You will have managed the patent docketing function at an academic institution or a major medical center and may be seeking broader responsibilities and more flexibility in your working schedule. As a patent docketing expert you are meticulous about the details and have the ability to notice when something is off and requires correction. The successful candidate will be able to work proactively and independently and we offer the opportunity to contribute and learn in other areas of the technology transfer discipline. Although Borman & Company is based in Boston, our consulting team is located across the country and this position can be remote.

Responsibilities:

​

  • Docket new patent and trademark filings, incoming office actions and correspondence (PTO, PCT, and Foreign Associate).

  • Assist in quality assurance reviews by noting and referring or remediating any errors or omissions observed during the normal course of docketing duties.

  • Prepare docket status and maintenance fee reports for clients and their attorneys as needed

  • Maintain and update foreign and U.S. patent and trademark prosecutions in the client docket system to track deadlines associated with obtaining and maintaining foreign and domestic patents.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years experience of substantive IP docketing experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of US/ foreign patents, PAIR, trademarks, PCT.

  • Technical knowledge to support client docketing systems databases.

Compliance Specialist

 

As a Compliance Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with a range of academic and healthcare institutions to assure that Bayh-Dole reporting regulations are met accurately and on a timely basis. Although Borman & Company is based in Boston, our consulting team is located across the country and this position can be remote. To succeed in this role, you will need to work well independently and as part of a team and be obsessed by the details to assure accuracy of client data for invention reporting.

Responsibilities:

 

Work with clients to remediate iEdison notifications:

  • Review client invention, funding, patent and financial data via client data and public data

  • Notify client of incorrect data, and remediate data as requested

  • Follow up with clients to obtain patenting decisions as needed

  • Generate confirmatory licenses and EPAS forms for client signature and submission to iEdison

  • Prepare correct government support clauses for client to ensure accurate document submission to iEdison

  • Using iEdison, correspond as needed for assistance with remediating outstanding notifications

 

Experience:

  • 4-5 years experience working with iEdison reporting in a tech transfer role

  • Must have knowledge of up-to-date federal compliance regulations

  • Working knowledge of the major databases serving technology transfer and the research enterprise. such as Inteum, Wellspring, TechTracS or InnovateIP

Licensing Finance Specialist

​

Work with clients to assure that the terms of technology licensing agreements are met, appropriate disbursements are made and data integrity is maintained.  Although Borman & Company is based in Boston, our consulting team is located across the country and this position can be remote. To succeed in this role, you will need to work well independently and be obsessed by the details for accurate follow-through on licensing agreements.

Responsibilities:

  • Review complex licensing agreements, patent and financial data

  • Work with university finance/tech transfer personnel to process distributions to inventors, university department and co-owners in accordance with governing agreements

  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in compliance with terms related to royalty payments and distributions

  • Support data integrity as related to license agreement maintenance

  • Develop reports and communications regarding financial terms and status of agreements

 

Experience:

  • 2-3 years experience in the finance function, ideally in a university setting, but corporate experience is also applicable

  • Strong working knowledge of accounts payable/receivables

  • Superior attention to detail for reconciliation of legal terms with financial obligations

  • Ability to navigate database software
